During my visit to Edinburgh, Scotland I stayed at the Castle Rock Hostel for 5 nights in a 10-bed female room and discovered the city thoroughly. With a 9.5/10 rating on Hostelworld, I expected a lot from this hostel, so here is my honest review.
A little spoiler: I highly recommend this hostel for many reasons. But read this post further to find out if this hostel fits your requirements as well!
Prices
The best way to book your stay at this hostel is to book via their own website where they offer the best prices. For just £18 a night you can stay in the cheapest room, which is the 16-bed mixed dormitory. I stayed in the 10-bed female dormitory, which is just £24 a night. For a European hostel this is quite cheap. But, the total of your stay decreases if you stay more than 3 nights. They grant a 15% discount on your total if this applies to your stay.
The price of this hostel seems very cheap compared to all the facilities, services and space you get. Below I have listed all the postives and negatives of this hostel for you to find out what to expect when staying at Castle Rock Hostel.
Pictures
Here are some pictures that I made in the hostel to give you an idea of what the hostel looks like! For me it looks like a museum with amazing views, but at the same time it is very homey inside.
The Review

Overall, the hostel felt very safe and cozy and I had a great time staying at Castle Rock Hostel. As you can see, I only put two negative points on the list. When staying at hostels it is always nice to have a curtain for privacy while you are sleeping, but this will not keep me from staying at great places if they don't have them. The doors in the rooms are also very heavy which makes them leave a loud noise when opened and closed.
It was really like coming home to the hostel after a long day of exploring. Since the shared spaces were spacious, there was always a seat to relax or hang out. There even is a cinema room, which shows movies in the evening, and a music room with multiple musical instruments! The staff was eager to help everyone out, which I really appreciated as well, making the experience here even better. The location of the hostel is right beneath Edinburgh Castle, which brings you in the city centre and all it's attractions in no time.
If you are looking for the right hostel in Edinburgh to stay in during your solo travels or budget travels with friends, definitely consider Castle Rock Hostel for the best vibes, value for money and staff!
